2) Read the mark scheme for this exam carefully, paying particular attention to the 'indicative content' for each question. Firstly, focus on the unseen question (Q1) and identify two points that you could have written in your answer.

- the skyline of contemporary/futuristic skyscrapers are signifiers of the city, banking/finance etc; this is reinforced by the costumes which suggest white-collar professionals

- the title as a sign anchors the possible meaning of the image – white-collar professionals as gangsters

3) Look at the indicative content for Q1 again and make a note of any theories or examples of media terminology you could have used in your answer.

4) Now focus on the TV 25-marker. Use the mark scheme to note down:

Three general comments on the TV industry and cultural/economic contexts

- Majority of viewing of TV programmes still take place on a TV screen; effect of convergence can be exaggerated
- Major events like the pandemic have changed TV viewing for good
- There's an increased no. of channels and streaming services but a majority of them are still owned by conglomerates

- "State of the nation" drama, commissioned for Sunday prime time
- Key selling point is representation of cultural, social and political contexts
- Targeted for an older audience

- Co-production between AMC Networks, SundanceTV and RTL Television

- Exploitation of social media indicates changes in how TV is consumed


5) Finally, identify three things you need to revise for Media Paper 2 before your next assessment or mock exam.

- More specific detail on the industry and questions
- Revise more media terminology + theory
- More information regarding case studies

1) What does the term 'Cultural Industries' actually refer to? The creation, production, and distribution of products of a cultural or artistic nature. 2) What does Hesmondhalgh identify regarding the societies in which the cultural industries are highly profitable? They  tend to be societies that support the c onditions where large companies, and their political allies, make  money. Magazine Research 1) 2) Chosen brand: Edge A common theme I'm noticing between these 3 of these front  covers is their heavy use of sans serif typography. I assume they've done this on purpose considering gaming is more of a recent medium; it first became popularized around 20-30 years ago, compared to TV or movies, which have been around for far, far longer. Gaming is seen as more of a "futuristic" kind of entertainment (as reinforced with their slogan, "The Future of Interactive Entertainment"), with its interactivity to audiences and its increasingly high quality graphics. Additionally, another theme I've noticed is the fact that they always seem to feature a render or drawing of a character of the game on the front cover; this is most likely a stand-in for a model, seeing as gaming obviously is digital.
